Detektiv Murdoch vyšetřuje vraždu Jeanette Rajotteové. Ta byla ráno nalezena nedaleko kostela, u hrobu svých rodičů. Podle doktorky Graceové oběť již v noci zemřela na následky úderu tupého nástroje do hlavy. V téže době farnost navštíví stárnoucí kněz Keegan a Murdoch je potěšen, že se může znovu setkat s učitelem, který jej vedl v době jeho dětství.
